Police officers from Zgorzelec, returing from duty, have spotted a man lying down on railway tracks. When one of them, together with another driver, rushed to the rescue, the barrier gates started to go down.
The whole incident was captured by CCTV at the crossing in Zgorzelec (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The video shows a man trying to stagger through the crossing. He falls down onto the tracks and can't pick himself up. Cars are passing by. No one is stopping.
"Luckily, there was someone who's not indifferent to human life. One of the motorists and the police officers stopped to help the man. Their reaction possibly saved his life. When they were running towards the tracks, the barrier gates started to go down," the spokesperson for Zgorzelec police, Agnieszka Goguł said.
The 53-year-old man was picked up back on his feet and moved out of the tracks with the help of the two men. As it later turned out, the man wasn't drunk, as the video might have suggested, but collapsed due to health problems.
The Zgorzelec County Police Chief is looking forward to personally thank the man who had helped the ill man, as well as the officers for exemplary civic conduct, thanks to which - most likely - a life has been saved.
"We warmly invite the man, who together with the police officer properly reacted to danger, to our headquarters," Agnieszka Goguł said.
