Three miners died after a severe tremor in Murcki Staszic coal mine in Katowice. One of them was found unconscious but died shortly after. Six other miners were taken to hospitals - Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG) informed on Monday.
Six other miners, who suffered injuries, were taken to hospitals - according to PGG, the owner of the Murcki-Staszic mine. No details regarding the type of injuries were released as yet. Unofficial reports say that at least of them is in serious condition.
Monday's tremor was classified as high-energy category; its magnitude was estimated at 2,66 in Richter scale. It was also felt above the ground.
According to Tomasz Głogowski from PGG, the tremor occured at 2.12 pm in the area where the nine miners were drilling a corridor. Three of them managed to return above the ground by themselves, four others were rescued by their collegues. One of them was found unconscious with no signs of life. Doctors fought for his life but, unfortunately, after 7 pm he was pronounced dead.
The two miners were left under the ground; their colleagues helped to point their exact location - rescuers and a doctor set out to help. When they found them, the two miners were already dead.
Representatives of the PGG board and mining authorities were the the scene. Air ambulance was used to transport the most severely injured miner to the hospital.
