Firefighters from 30 brigades, supported by 3 firefighting planes, battled to extinguish the flames, thought to have been started by a combine harvester working in the fields.

A firefighter attending the scene said according to initial observations, the fire destroyed between 100 and 200 hectares ( 1 to 2 km) of land.

The fire service also confirmed that there were no injuries and that the fire was under control.

Firefighters from the region also tackled a fire on Sunday (June 30) which had broken out in a grain field near the city of Poznań.

Poland has been experiencing high temperatures throughout June.

On Wednesday (June 26) temperatures broke June records, hitting 38.2 degrees in Kurnik, located 25 km (15.5 miles) away from Poznań.
