It’s just beginning to dawn on Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki what "Red is Bad" really means - Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on X on Thursday (October 31). On the same day, Paweł S., the creator of the brand "Red is Bad," heard charges against him.
Paweł S., who was brought back to Poland from the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, was charged on Thursday by the Silesian division of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice. The charges include participating in an organized criminal group, committing crimes within this group together with other officials from the Governmental Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS), and money laundering.
"It’s just beginning to dawn on Prime Minister Morawiecki what 'Red is bad' really means. And for whom," Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on the X platform on Thursday afternoon.
Orders from RARS
In June, the Onet portal detailed the connections between Paweł S. and the administration of Mateusz Morawiecki. "During the PiS era, authorities forged a kind of alliance with the creator of the clothing brand Red is Bad, Paweł S****, to channel public funds on an unprecedented scale," and "for Morawiecki's team, the businessman became a supplier of everything—from protective equipment during the pandemic to power generators during the war," the portal reported.
According to Onet, in just three years, transfers amounting to half a billion zloty were deposited into Paweł S.’s accounts, and he received orders from the Governmental Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS) without competitive bidding. An investigation into irregularities at RARS was launched on December 1, 2023. It is currently being conducted by the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice.
The investigation concerns, among other things, abuse of authority and failure to perform duties by RARS employees in organizing and executing the procurement of goods, thereby acting to the detriment of the public interest between February 23, 2021, and November 27, 2023, in Warsaw, to achieve financial gain.
