We are pleased with Donald Trump's victory. I think this is quite common in our party - said the leader of the Law and Justice party (PiS), Jarosław Kaczyński. Asked about Trump's words that the war in Ukraine could be ended in 24 hours, he replied: "Words, words, words. We'll see what actions follow." The head of the PiS parliamentary club, Mariusz Błaszczak, said that they "see President Donald Trump as a great friend of our country."
Donald Trump won the election and will be the 47th President of the United States, reported CNN. According to the projections of the American station, the Republican candidate gained the support that will provide him with a sufficient number of electoral votes.
"We are pleased with this victory. I think this is quite common in our party," PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński told reporters in the corridors of the Sejm (Polish parliament). He added that his party wants "good cooperation with the United States."
Kaczyński was asked whether what happened in the US increases the chances of Przemysław Czarnek being a presidential candidate for the Law and Justice party. TVN24 reporter Agata Adamek noted that "Janusz Kowalski directly says: Błaszczak or Czarnek in this situation."
Kaczyński said he "highly values" MP Kowalski, calling him a "very talented, hard-working man." Asked if he also values Czarnek, he replied: "Of course, I highly value him too."
Kaczyński: we'll see what actions follow
The PiS leader was also asked what Trump's victory means for Ukraine's interests, Kaczyński replied, "We are aware of his own statements that the war could be ended within 24 hours," remarked Agata Adamek.
"Words, words, words. We'll see what actions follow," Kaczyński responded.
When another journalist mentioned in a previous conversation in the parliamentary corridor that Vice President-elect J.D. Vance had said he would give Russia part of occupied territories in Ukraine, Kaczyński remarked: "I know that Vance has certain views on this part of Europe, which are impossible to agree with, but on the other hand, Trump will be the president."
Kaczyński on Błaszczak's words
On Wednesday, journalists also asked Kaczyński about a recent statement by Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the PiS parliamentary club, who said that after Trump's victory, Prime Minister Donald Tusk should resign because he supported Kamala Harris. "There is no doubt that Donald Tusk is a supporter of the German-Russian policy of pushing the United States out of Europe. From Poland's perspective, this policy is more than lethal. That's why these sharp words," Kaczyński assessed.
Błaszczak: we see president Donald Trump as a great friend of our country
Mariusz Błaszczak congratulated Donald Trump on his electoral victory during a press conference on Wednesday. He emphasized that "we perceive President Donald Trump as a great friend of our country." Błaszczak highlighted that during Trump's first term (2017-2021), Polish-American relations reached a high level.
He pointed to defense contracts, including an agreement on enhanced Polish-American military cooperation, the energy deal, and the agreements that led to the lifting of visa requirements for Polish citizens traveling to the United States.
Błaszczak also raised concerns about how the current Polish government would maintain these strong relations, given the past tensions between the ruling coalition, which he referred to as the "December 13 coalition," and Trump. He recalled that members of the ruling coalition had publicly criticized Trump on social media.
The PiS politician also reminded that the Law and Justice party (PiS) had ensured good relations with every U.S. administration, starting with Barack Obama's presidency, followed by successful cooperation during Trump's presidency, and continued positive relations under Joe Biden's administration. According to Błaszczak, the future of previously negotiated contracts, including defense deals with the U.S., is now uncertain.
