"Can a woman be president of the USA? And can a woman be president of Poland? We’ll see," Poland's former prime minister Beata Szydło said in a video posted on the X platform on Tuesday (November 5). Commenting on the video, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński said: "It’s certain that one day a woman will become president of Poland." He also addressed whether Szydło had been considered by PiS as a potential candidate.
Referring to the upcoming U.S. election in a video shared on the X platform, PiS MEP Beata Szydło posed the following question: "Can a woman be president of the USA? And can a woman be president of Poland? We’ll see."
Kaczyński was asked about her statement and responded that he didn’t interpret it as Szydło expressing a wish for Kamala Harris to win the U.S. presidential election. "I deeply don’t believe that the former prime minister would want Ms. (Kamala) Harris to win the election in the United States. The prime minister is a member of our party, a Polish patriot, and she understands that Harris's leadership would raise certain questions, to put it mildly," Kaczyński stated.
He added: "We all know perfectly well that a more reliable choice for Poland is (Donald) Trump, as our cooperation with him went smoothly, perhaps the best out of all U.S. presidents to date."
Speaking about Szydło’s video, he also said: "It’s certain that one day a woman will be president of Poland; the only question is when." He admitted he couldn’t predict when but expressed confidence that it would happen eventually. He also noted that PiS has not yet decided on its candidate for the presidency.
He clarified that "the former prime minister’s name hasn’t come up, not even among the broader pool of potential PiS candidates."
Kaczyński also returned to a comment he had made several months ago, when he stated that during wartime, a woman wouldn’t have a strong chance. "It wasn’t me who claimed that a woman wouldn’t be suitable for the upcoming election; it’s simply what the research showed. I was sharing the findings of studies conducted primarily in rural areas," Kaczyński explained.
