Deputy Minister Jacek Tomczak has resigned, the Ministry of Development and Technology announced on social media on Wednesday (October 30).
"The Ministry of Development and Technology informs that on October 30, 2024, Mr. Jacek Tomczak submitted his resignation from the position of Secretary of State," the statement on the platform X read.
"This decision was made with the welfare and image of the ministry in mind. The MRiT leadership hopes that all doubts raised in recent hours in the media will be promptly clarified," the statement continued.
WP on Tomczak's collaboration with developers
On Wednesday, Wirtualna Polska reported that Deputy Minister of Development Jacek Tomczak "has been collaborating with developers for years through his notary office." The portal pointed out that the solutions recommended by Deputy Minister Tomczak in the Kredyt na start program "will lead to an increase in housing prices, with developers benefiting the most."
In a statement to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), the Ministry of Development confirmed that MRiT head Krzysztof Paszyk had urgently summoned Jacek Tomczak to provide explanations and respond to the media reports.
Tomczak responds
Tomczak emphasized in a conversation with PAP that he had suspended his notarial practice a year ago precisely, as he put it, "to avoid such situations."
"I haven’t been practicing for a year, but as we can see, in Poland, if someone even once conducted business, unfortunately, certain hostile circles consider them inherently suspicious," Tomczak remarked.
He added that he did not want to operate "in a climate of accusations," which led him to conclude that resigning from the position of Deputy Minister of Development and Technology would be the best course of action.
