The Ministry of Health informed on Friday about 57,262 new COVID cases and the death of 271 COVID patients. Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported 4,752,700 infections and 104,907 COVID-related deaths.
According to the Health Ministry report published this morning, the highest number of the 57,262 infection cases were recorded in the Silesian Voivodeship - 9,916.
Friday's numbers of infection in Lower Silesian, Łódź, Opole, Silesian and Greater Poland Voivodeships were the highest daily reports since the start of the pandemic.
The 57,262 cases reported on Friday is the second-highest daily figure since the start of the pandemic in Poland. The record number was reported the previous day (Thursday, Jan. 27) - 57,659. On Wednesday, Jan. 26, the figure was at 53,420 cases, which was a new record at the time.
Last week on Friday the ministry informed about 36,665 new infections, which makes today's number higher by over 20,600 cases (an increase by 56%).
The average number of daily infections for the last seven days has increased up to 44,200 and is the highest since the start of the pandemic. The highest seven-day average infections rate in the first wave equalled 759 (August 27, 2020), 26,600 in the second wave (November 11, 2020), nearly 28,900 in the third (April 1, 2021), and over 23,400 in the fourth (December 7, 2021).
The number of active cases, that is peope currently going through coronavirus infection, has increased to 742,017 and is the highest since the start of the pandemic in Poland.
Furthermore, 178,308 COVID tests were carried within the last 24 hours, which was the second-highest number of examined samples since the start of the pandemic. (the highest figure was reported on Thursday, Jan.27 - 179,498).
The ministry also said in Friday's report that 271 COVID patients died in the last 24 hours, of wich 186 had pre-existing medical conditions.
The average number of COVID deaths for the last seven days has increased for the first time since Jan. 16, up to 183.
