"I have confirmed the purchase of Gladius unmanned drone systems. It is a cutting-edge equipment that will increase Poland's security," Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said on Friday. Under the contract, Poland will receive four battery-powered modules of unmanned search and strike systems.
Poland's Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak informed about the purchase of Gladius unmanned search and strike systems at a press conference held in the ministry in Warsaw.
"The first drones will be delivered already this year to artillery regiments located in eastern Poland," he said.
He added that the Polish Armed Forces should be prepared to face potential aggressors. "We assume there will be no aggression, because the Polish Armed Forces will be abundant and equipped with modern weapons, which will deter the aggressor," Błaszczak said.
WB Electronics CEO Piotr Wojciechowski, who was also present at the conference, said that the Gladius project was a technologically advanced system, manufactured fully in Poland.
The system consists of unmanned FT-5 aircraft used for reconnaissance and Gladius suicide drones which can carry armour-piercing charges. Furthermore, the system will be intergrated with TOPAZ Integrated Combat Management System used by the Polish artillery. Unmanned aircraft will be able pass information to the artillery regarding targets and adjust fire.
This is yet another deal between the Ministry of National Defence and WB Electronics from Ożarów Mazowiecki. Last week, the MOD signed a contract worth 50 million zlotys for the purchase of further Warmate loitering munitions systems, which have been used for years by the Ukrainian army.
