An operation to reach two cavers trapped in Poland's Tatra mountains was slowed on Thursday (August 22) by a rockfall.
Head of the Tatra Volunteer Ambulance Service (TOPR) Jan Krzysztof said the natural rockfall happened as teams of rescuers were changing shifts and that none of the rescue team had been hurt.
Krzysztof said the blockage should not require explosives to dislodge the material and attempts to save the trapped cavers is expected to resume later on Thursday.
The two cavers became trapped in the Wielka Sniezna cave, the longest and deepest in the Tatra mountains, on Saturday (August 17) and rescue services were notified by colleagues who had accompanied them on the excursion.
