In an interview with TVN24 BiS, European Space Agency (ESA) Director General Dr. Josef Aschbacher said that "investing in space is investing in the future". Poland and the ESA on Tuesday signed agreements on programs to support the development of the Polish space sector. "This means a lot for Poland. Poland has made a big step upwards in the scale of ESA member states," the ESA chief stressed.
On August 29, Poland's Minister of Development and Technology Waldemar Buda and European Space Agency (ESA) Director General Dr. Josef Aschbacher signed agreements on programs to support the development of the Polish space sector.
The first agreement concerns internships for Polish graduates at ESA. The second, the development of Polish space technologies.
Buda and Aschbacher also exchanged an agreement signed in early August guaranteeing the presence of a second Pole in space.
"Investing in space is investing in the future"
Hubert Kijek, a TVN24 BiS reporter, spoke about Poland's plans to develop its space sector with ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher. "This means a lot for Poland. Poland has made a big step upwards in the scale of ESA member states," Aschbacher said.
"Poland is now really a good, strong, medium-sized country in our family of ESA member states," he added.
"And I would like to, first of all, thank Poland for this decision, congratulate Poland for this decision, because it will be good for Poland and its society. And it means a lot."
The ESA chief praised Poland for making a wise and intelligent decision "because space is a very fast-growing economy".
"It’s growing much faster than many other segments of other economies, other domains, and investing in space is investing in the future. But it also means that the Polish people will be working in a domain that is a very high-end technology domain, like space, but also brings a lot of fascination," Josef Aschbacher said.
