A furniture factory in the Polish town of Turek was destroyed by fire on Wednesday requiring the evacuation of more than 100 workers and residents.
TVN24 has learned, the fire was reported by factory workers in the early hours of Wednesday morning and the entire factory building was engulfed by flames by the time local fire crews arrived.
Local officials said there were no casualties.
"It's a huge tragedy for the city and the Turek district," Turek district mayor Dariusz Kałużny said, adding that the fire would mean job losses for some of the more than 1000 employees of the factory and damage costing millions of Polish zlotys.
Wielkopolska provincial governor Łukasz Mikołajczyk said talks were ongoing between local authorities and the company on how best to help those who would lose their jobs.
The province's fire chief said the fire spread quickly, most likely through the factory's air ducts, and the evacuation involved 88 factory workers and 52 residents from two nearby buildings.
