Mariusz G., who was in the cell with Dawid Kostecki at the time of his death, has self-harmed - said Elżbieta Krakowska, the spokesperson for the Polish Prison Service. She explained that it wasn't a suicide attempt.
According to Polish Press Agency (PAP), the self-cutting took place last Saturday (August 17).
Prison Service spokesperson, Elżbieta Krakowska, said that Mariusz G. cut his forearm on purpose. Shortly after the incident, he was received medical help.
Krakowska underscored that it wasn't a suicidal attempt. Mariusz G. was in one cell with Dawid Kostecki, also on the day the latter committed suicide.
PAP also learned that Mariusz G. had self-harmed after talking to his partner. The woman is believed to have told him that, because of Kostecki's death, "he would never leave prison".
Allegedly, Mariusz G. also told the prison psychologist that he was devastated by what was happening regarding Kostecki's death, and that he was afraid of being accused of murdering him.
These revelations were partially confirmed by the Prison Service. Krakowska said that Mariusz G. indeed talked to his partner. "Later, he told the psychologist that he had cut himself because of media reports suggesting his involvement in the death of Dawid Kostecki," she explained. According to Krakowska, Mariusz G. considers this "a witchhunt that affected his relatives and led to serious personal problems".
Mariusz G. has been taken under psychological supervision.
