District Prosecutor’s Office in Myślenice has launched an inquiry after Friday’s bus and truck head-on collision that happened on popular "zakopianka" road between Kraków and Zakopane. "The investigation is being conducted on suspicion of causing unintentional road traffic catastrophe," said the deputy district prosecutor, Beata Florkow.

"The inquiry is in the initial phase, so we cannot provide any details regarding the causes at this stage. We have secured the evidence and will question the witnesses, including other drivers who had seen the accident. We will try to recover the video material from the truck, examine the recorders from other cars and call for experts," said Ms Florkow.

According to the law, a person responsible for unintentionally causing a road traffic catastrophe that would put lives and health of many people at risk, may face up to 5 years in prison.

The accident involving a truck and a bus carrying 42 children and 3 guardians took place on local road number 7 in Tenczyn, at 10:40 a.m. There was also one passenger car involved in the crash on popular "zakopianka". In total, 34 people were taken to hospitals. Four persons, including one child got seriously injured. Sixteen people left the hospitals on the day of the accident. The next day, on Saturday, another seven were discharged and sent home.

"Five children and five adults who suffered injuries in Friday’s head-on collision of bus and a truck on "zakopianka" remain in hospitals," said the spokeperson for Małopolskie Voivode, Joanna Pażdzio on Monday.
