Poland's Deputy PM and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on Thursday (Feb.29) signed an agreement with U.S. government for the delivery of an integrated air and missile defense command system.
The new command system is part of the WISŁA Phase II and NAREW programs, aimed at enhancing Poland's national security.
Deputy PM Kosiniak-Kamysz said the deal will significantly improve the standing of the Polish defence capabilities.
"Poland, as the second country after the USA, will have the world's most advanced integrated command system," he stressed.
The minister also thanked U.S. Ambassador Mark Brzezinski for his personal involvement in Poland's security.
"We maintain contact on a daily basis. These are so important matters they require our direct, everyday relations," he added.
Ambassador Brzezinski thanked Kosiniak-Kamysz for being part of "a very important step in the U.S.-Polish special friendship".
He underscored that the purchased systems would bolster Poland's capability to rapidly respond to potential threats in the region.
"We have seen firsthand in Ukraine how critical air and missile defence is. This procurement will ensure that Poland has the best, most modern and effective tools to defend NATO territory," he said.
The ambassador also assured in Polish that the United States would always stand shoulder to shoulder with Poland and NATO.
"President Biden has called Article 5 'a sacred oath' to defend every square inch of NATO territory," Mark Brzezinski added.
