Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki issued a letter on Thursday to participants in the Global Polonia Summit, which began on the same day in the village of Jasionka (southeastern Poland).
The PM's letter was read out during the summit's opening by the government commissioner for international dialogue, senator Anna Maria Anders.
PM Morawiecki wrote that the diaspora's past efforts to restore Poland to the map of the world "will always serve as a model of civic attitudes."
He emphasised that a competitive, modern and innovative motherland needs an active and committed diaspora.
The summit will help forge new diaspora links, the PM wrote, and, as a result, to "the development of partnership thinking and action towards strengthening the Polish state."
