"We're looking at sending tanks to Poland to try to help them as they send in some of their T-72 to to Ukraine," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said at a press conference held on Friday together with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
At Friday's joint press conference with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, British PM Boris Johnson mentioned Poland in the context of supporting Ukraine in this country's struggle against the Russian aggression.
"I think perhaps what I haven't said in public before is that we're also looking more at what we can do to backfill in countries such as Poland who may want to send heavier weaponry to defend the help defend the Ukrainians," Johnson said.
"So we're looking at sending tanks to Poland to try to help them as they send in some of their T-72s (tanks) to Ukraine. And other steps like that," he added.
"Fakty" TVN correspondent in London Maciej Woroch told TVN24 that Poland's Defence Ministry had refused to immediately comment on Johnson's words.
Woroch added that Britain's MOD had unofficially confirmed that talks on sending Challenger 2 tanks to Poland were in progress.
The FV4034 Challenger 2 is a third generation British main battle tank in service with the armies of the United Kingdom and Oman. It was designed and built by the British company Vickers Defence Systems. Vickers Defence Systems began to develop a successor to the Challenger 1 as a private venture in 1986.
"Fakty" TVN correspondent also said that a Challenger 2 tank costs approx. 4 million pounds and weighs 64 tonnes.
