Prosecutor's office in Szczytno (Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeship) is investigating the circumstances of Sunday's accident in amusement park, as a result of which a nine-year-old boy lost his life. According to initial findings, fastenings of the merry-go-round went loose; the machine had valid technical reviews and the staff members were sober.
The accident happened on Sunday in a travelling amusement park in Szczytno. A nine-year-old was taken to hospital where he died due to sustained injuries. His uncle who was also at the merry-go-round has suffered a backbone injury.
"According to initial findings, fastenings of the merry-go-round went loose which caused the boy hitting his head against the platform," said the deputy district prosecutor in Szczytno, Artur Bekulard.
He added that, according to the secured documents, the carousel had valid technical reviews.
In the course of the investigation, the prosecutor will try to establish whether any negligence may have caused the accident. An expert will issue an opinion regarding the technical condition of the carousel, durability of materials, as well as the installation method.
The prosecutor also said that the employees of the amusement park were sober.
Post-mortem that will determine the cause of death of the child is scheduled on Wednesday.
