Another two candidates have withdrawn their applications for Supreme Court judge position, according to the information issued by the National Council of the Judiciary. One of the candidates who decided not to apply is a solicitor and the other's a junior specialist in the Supreme Court Research and Analyses Office.
The National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) so far has received 215 applications for Supreme Court judges, however 13 candidates have withdrawn, informed the KRS Office.
In the end of June in Monitor Polski (Official Gazette of the Republic of Poland), President Andrzej Duda's annoucement regarding vacancies in the Supreme Court.
The announcement stated that there are 44 judge positions to fill.
According to the Supreme Court law, anyone who meets the requirements to become a Supreme Court judge may apply within a month after the publication of the announcement.
According to the KRS's statement released on Friday, there were 100 applications for the Disciplinary Chamber (16 vacancies), 74 for the Chamber of Extraordinary Supervision and Public Affairs (20 vacancies), 34 for the Civil Chamber (7 vacancies) and 7 for the Criminal Chamber (1 vacancy).
Polish Supreme Court (SN) has sent five questions to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and asked for a preliminary ruling.
The questions concern the provision of the Supreme Court law regarding sending judges aged 65 or older to retirement, including the court's president Małgorzata Gersdorf.
The SN issued a resolution suspending the execution of the questioned law until the CJEU passes its ruling.
Polish Judiciary Council responded with a statement that it's not going to submit to the resolution.
