Last week, the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) informed that it has received 215 applications for Supreme Court judges, however 13 candidates have withdrawn. There are 44 judge positions to fill.
According to the KRS's statement, there were 100 applications for the Disciplinary Chamber (16 vacancies), 74 for the Chamber of Extraordinary Supervision and Public Affairs (20 vacancies), 34 for the Civil Chamber (7 vacancies) and 7 for the Criminal Chamber (1 vacancy).
According to the Supreme Court law, anyone who meets the requirements to become a Supreme Court judge may apply within a month after the publication of the announcement.
The KRS also said that the number of candidacies may change, as some of the bids have been sent by mail and still some time was needed to make the final count. Furthermore, the candidates have the right to withdraw their bids at any stage.
The deadline for submitting the applications passed on 29 July.
