PM Mateusz Morawiecki, on Sunday in Sandomierz, southeastern Poland, said he hoped ruling party Law and Justice's victory in the autumn local elections will be the direct result of its current election campaign.
Speaking to voters on the city's main square, Morawiecki said he wanted PiS to win the elections on the strength of what it told voters during the campaign. He added that if PiS won the ballot, it would be able to reform Poland's local structures along the same lines as it did the central government.
"I would like us to be number one in result of this campaign, thanks to what we will tell citizens. Then, we will be able to change Poland for the better on the local level just like we are changing the (central) government," Morawiecki declared.
Morawiecki said that among the party's plans were changes in business laws and more spending on road projects, and stressed that PiS intended to spend six times as much on local roads as the previous government did.
The vote
Poland will hold local elections on October 21 with a second round on November 4, according to a document published on Tuesday on the website of the Journal of Laws.
The vote could give the Law and Justice (PiS) party, which rules nationally and enjoys strong public support but is in a minority in most regional administrations, a stronger foothold in local government.
That would the socially conservative but economically left-leaning party more say in how public funds are spent ahead of next year's general election.
