"We will meet at an exceptional parade," says defense minister Błaszczak. The opposition raises concerns over the state of the Polish Army, and Warsaw drivers are taking a big forced detour.
Ministry of Defense is planning a big military parade on Wednesday to mark the Polish Armed Forces Day. This year, for the first time, the parade will take place on Wisłostrada, one of the major transit routes in Warsaw. The road has been blocked for the time of preparations, causing lots of trouble for Warsaw's drivers.
"We will meet at an exceptional parade. It will be devoted to celebrating the 100 years of Polish independence," said the Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak who has personally overseen the preparations.
The opposition parties aren't as fond of the parade and they ask the government about the condition of the Polish Army. Biggest concerns surround especially the question of ageing equipment, as well as high-ranking officers leaving the army.
On 15th of August, on Polish Armed Forces Day the President Andrzej Duda will hand over 11 promotions to the rank of general. There will be five promotions to the rank of brigadier general, five to divisional general and one to vice admiral, the National Security Bureau informed.
Polish Armed Forces Day is a national holiday celebrated annually on 15 August in Poland, commemorating the anniversary of the 1920 victory over Soviet Russia at the Battle of Warsaw during the Polish–Soviet War.
