U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday said resolving Middle East challenges was not possible without "pushing back against Iran.
"You can't achieve peace and stability in the Middle East without confronting Iran - it's just not possible," Pompeo said at a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The two leaders held a brief meeting before the first session of the Mideast Peace conference in Warsaw attended by foreign ministers and other officials from more than 60 countries.
Netanyahu said the meeting marked an important change in the understanding of common threats.
"Some sixty foreign ministers and representatives of dozens of governments, Israeli Prime Minister and foreign ministers of the leading Arab countries stood together, spoke with unusual force, clarity and unity against the common threat of the Iranian regime," Netanyahu said.
The Warsaw meeting was a rare show of Middle East cooperation, bringing together Israel and Gulf Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia.
But European allies of Washington have voiced concern that the conference would turn into an Iran-bashing session and increase tensions with the Islamic Republic, which has lambasted the gathering as a "desperate circus".
