Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has told the secret service coordinator Mariusz Kamiński to take over the interior ministry after Elżbieta Witek, and asked President Andrzej Duda to officially appoint him as the new Minister of the Interior and Administration. Kamiński will remain the head of Polish secret services - the spokesperson for the government Piotr Müller informed on Friday.
On Friday, the Sejm (lower house of Polish parliament) appointed the head of the interior ministry Elżbieta Witek as the new speaker of the chamber. Witek replaced Marek Kuchciński who had resigned amid flights he took on official planes together with his family.
Earlier on Friday, the Chancellery of the President announced that Andrzej Duda, at the request of PM Morawiecki, recalled Witek from the cabinet and the ministry of the interior.
The government spokesperson wrote on Twitter on Friday that the prime minister asked Kamiński to take over after Witek. Morawiecki also asked the President to officially appoint Kamiński as the new minister.
"The minister (Kamiński) will continue as the coordinator of the secret services," Müller informed.
