Inflation in Poland in March increased by 11.0% year on year, Statistics Poland informed on Friday. This is the highest spike since July 2000 and slightly bigger than early April estimate.
Consumer prices in March 2022, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 11.0% (with an increase of prices of goods by 11.6% and services by 9.1%) - Polish government agency Statistics Poland (GUS) informed on Friday.
As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 3.3% (of which goods by 4.1% and services by 0.8%) - GUS added.
According to a preliminary estimate published by GUS in early April, March inflation was at 10.9% year on year, and 3.2% compared to February.
In March of the current year, compared with the previous month, the highest contribution to the total consumer price index came from higher prices related to transport (by 17.5%), dwelling (by 2.6%), food (by 2.4%) and clothing and footwear (by 3.9%), which increased the index by 1.60 pp, 0.68 pp, 0.57 pp and 0.16 pp, respectively - GUS informed.
Lower prices related to recreation and culture (by 0.4%) decreased the index by 0.03 pp. Compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, higher prices related to dwelling (by 15.4%), food (by 9.6%) and transport (by 24.1%) increased the index by 3.84 pp, 2.33 pp and 2.24 pp, respectively.
