Police detained a 38-year-old man suspected of attacking the former mayor of Siedlce with a knife on Monday morning. Wojciech Kudelski was taken to a hospital where he underwent an operation. Doctors say that the former mayor was in a stable condition.

The Minister of Interior Affairs and Administration Joachim Brudziński informed via Twitter that the attacker has been detained.
The spokesperson for prosecutor's office in Siedlce Krystyna Gołąbek said that the detained suspect is a 38-year-old male. He was apprehended at his workplace in Siedlce county.
According to the unofficial information the detained man is Dejan Apastasi S., a Polish citizen.
The spokesperson of the prosecutor's office added that the man has not been interrogated yet, nor has he been charged. All the procedural steps have been scheduled for Tuesday. "The prosecutor's office has launched a separate investigation of an attempted murder, said the spokesperson, adding that more time is necessary to analyse collected evidence.
Mariusz Mioduski from the Voivodeship Hospital in Siedlce told journalists that the former mayor's condition was stable. "Patient's condition seems to have become stable. Obviously, he me must remain under observation and intensive care and on proper medication," he said.
"I spoke to him personally. He only said that he felt better," he added.
When asked about Kudelski's injuries, the doctor only said that they were life-threatening and added that the prosecutor would have more details.
