Central Wroc艂aw. A man stands on a traffic island separating lanes and all of a sudden enters a crosswalk straight in front of an incoming tram. The vehicle hits the pedestrian who bumps off, somersaults, stands up and walks away. The video has been sent to us via Kontakt24 platform.
The dangerous situation happened nearby the crossing of Pi艂sudskiego and Dworcowa streets in Wroc艂aw. We've received footage showing the incident on our Kontakt24 platform. The dash cam video shows a tram approaching a crosswalk. Pedestrians stand on a traffic island between the lanes. Suddenly, one of them enters the zebra right in front of the tram. He bumps off the city vehicle, somersaults, only to stand up and walk away.
The author of the video, Sebastian, commented on the accident in following words: "There's a pedestrian crossing right there. He walked in despite the red light and got hit by the tram. He broke the tram's windshield. He somersaulted and stood up like it was nothing. The driver rushed outside, grabbed his own head fearing the man was stuck underneath the tram. He didn't even notice that the pedestrian stood up and walked away. He was really lucky" - Sebastian said.
We asked the city transport authority for comment. "A pedestrian was hit and walked away from the scene" - said Bartosz Naskr臋ski, a spokesman for MPK Wroc艂aw. "According to the driver of the line 70 tram, the man was standing on the island when all of a sudden - at a red light - he entered the crossing, bumped off the tram, fell down and simply walked away.
Naskr臋ski also said the CCTV footage of the incident has been secured. "We urge to pay special attention while entering tracks. Due to their mass, trams are unable to stop as quickly as cars. Even if the driver manages to stop the vehicle, it can be dangerous to the passengers" - the MPK spokesman appealed.
