I can assure you that the side that is in favor of seeing Ukraine beat Russia, maintain its independence, join the European Union, join NATO, is the vast majority of opinion here in the United States - U.S. Senator Jim Risch told "Fakty" TVN U.S. correspondent Marcin Wrona. The senator also commented on the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel.
U.S. Senator Jim Risch of the Republican Party, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was asked by "Fakty" TVN U.S. correspondent Marcin Wrona if Ukraine could still count on the U.S. support, especially that there have been different opinions circulating in recent weeks as to the extent of said support.
"Well, you have to remember that this is a democracy, as in Ukraine and as in Poland. Whenever you have that, you have debate. And whenever you have debate, there’s always people on each side. I can assure you that the side that is in favor of seeing Ukraine beat Russia, maintain its independence, join the European Union, join NATO, is the vast majority of opinion here in the United States," Jim Risch assured.
"There is a minority that can’t quite see the connection. They’re wrong, but they have that right in a democracy," he added.
"There’s 100 senators. The minority view is about 8 percent, the majority view is about 9 percent, across the party lines. And the percentage is about the same the House (House of Representatives – edit.). Now, those who stand up and say the negative things, they get a lot of TV time, they get a lot of newspaper time. And as a result of that, somebody looking at it from the outside would say: oh, you know, this thing can go either way. No, it’s not going to go either way. There is a vast majority of Americans that understand that Putin has got to be stopped," the senator stressed.
Risch: you’ve got to be ready to deal with no-goodniks
Asked if he was concerned that the significance of the war in Ukraine could be overshadowed by the conflict in the Gaza Strip, senator Risch said: "Obviously, that's a huge problem also".
"The good news is we’ve done this before in WWII – we had a front going on in Europe and a front going on in the Pacific. When you have the no-goodniks out there that cause trouble all the time, these things are going to happen. You’ve got to be ready to deal with them. We’re dealing with them, you’re dealing with them. We’re going to be just fine," the senator said.
