"I doubt that our, Belarusian army will participate alongside Russian army, because first of all, there are no anti-Ukrainian moods among our army, and secondly, our army is not experienced, we don’t have anything to fight with," Belarusian dissident Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya told TVN24 on Tuesday during Warsaw Security Forum. She added that "any mobilisation of Belarusian people will be a political suicide for Lukashenka".
"First of all, we have to understand that Lukashenko is the full ally to Putin in this war, he gave our territory to attack a neighbouring country," Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya told TVN24 reporter Jan Niedziałek on Tuesday (October 4).
"I doubt that our, Belarusian army will participate alongside Russian army, because first of all, there are no anti-Ukrainian moods among our army, and secondly, our army is not experienced, we don’t have anything to fight with. And Lukashenko knows this… for sure any mobilisation of Belarusian people will be a political suicide for Lukashenka. Because even if some people are supporting this regime, they are not supporting war in any case," she added.
"About 86% of Belarusians are against participation of Belarusian troops in this war, so Lukashenko doesn’t show the will of Belarusian people."
Tskihanouskaya also said her country could be used by Russian troops again as it had been earlier this year.
"In February and March, Belarusian partisans, cyberpartisans, disrupted railways to stop Russian equipment, and our people gathered information about movement of Russian troops and delivered this information to the Ukrainian army," she said.
"Of course if such attack from Belarusian territory will start again, our people, our society will do everything possible in this situation to support Ukrainians. But we have to remember that our people are living under huge repressions for two years already. And for participating for any acts of sabotage people can face death penalty. But despite of that we are ready to support Ukrainians, we are ready to defend our sovereignty" - Belarusian dissident said.
