Storms over Poland
The Government Centre for Security sent out text messages on Thursday with weather alerts, warning against strong wind and storms with hailstones. The so-called RCB alerts were sent to resident of 12 voivodeships. The alert is in effect in central and eastern parts of Poland.
Storms can occur in these areas. Expected rainfall is likely to be between 30 and 40 milimetres, and locally, up to 50 milimetres per square metre. Wind gusts may reach speed up to 115 kilometres per hour. Hailstone downpour may also occur in some places.
During the storm, it is advised not to hide underneath the trees and not to remain in open spaces. If outside, it is best to quickly find safe shelter. It's also advised to remain in the car once in travel. The RCB explains that cars are fairly good protection against lightnings. Groups of people staying in an open space should disperse in a distance of several dozen metres. Thereby, in case a lightning strike, part of the group may help those affected.
Strong wind may damage power lines and so it's better to be prepared for power outages.
