A 25-year-old woman has died and a 23-year-old man got injured in a car crash that took place at a junction of Kapelanka and Monte Cassino streets in Kraków. In order to caution drivers, the police have published the CCTV footage of the accident.
The accident took place last Wednesday (August 28). According to the police, a 23-year-old driving a skoda ignored the red light, entered the junction and crashed with a citroen which had the green light. The skoda then smashed onto a lamppost.
The video shows that the impact force was so strong that the skoda tipped over and moved a dozen metres rotating around its own axis.
The police informed that a 25-year-old female passenger of the skoda has died. The 23-year-old driver has been injured.
60 accidents
The police caution drivers against ignoring the traffic lights. "It's still one of the most common causes of road accidents," said the spokesperson for the Lesser Poland Police Department, Sebastian Gleń.
He added that in 2018, due to this cause, there were 244 collision and 60 accidents in Kraków, in which 1 person died and 80 were injured.
"Other commonly recurring causes of accidents and collisions at junctions include: forcing the right of way, not keeping safe distance from the car in front, incorrent turning manouver, speeding and incorrect change of lanes," the spokesperson said.
