"I’ve been ordered not to give public statements regarding the disabled people protesting in the Sejm and for me the red line was crossed. I won’t tolerate lies and deceit," said Modern Party MP Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus, moments after announcing that she’s leaving the formation.
"Not quitting politics"
Ms Scheuring-Wielgus wrote on Twitter: "I’m leaving the Modern Party but I’m not quitting politics. Good day. Let’s go ahead!". She uploaded a photo of party membership book cut in half.
She also added that it was the party’s presidium that imposed media-statement ban on her and she only found out about in the internet.
Key principles
Later on, another MP from Modern Party, Joanna Schmidt announced her departure. "I can’t turn a blind eye to the way the principles once held dear are being treated today in Modern Party, nor can I accept the wrongful treatment of people who work hard in accordance with those principles. That is why I have decided to leave both the parliamentary group and the party."
After the departure of Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus and Joanna Schmidt, the Modern Party Parliamentary Group will have 23 MPs remaining.
