The legendary British heavy metal band Iron Maiden played a football match at Hutnik Kraków's stadium. After a goalless draw, the band's founder and bassist Steve Harris received the local club's jersey with his name on the back.

The match between Steve Harris's team and their rivals from Canpack company was played at Suche Stawy. "The choice of the rival was not a coincidence as the Canpack company provides cans and bottle caps for an Iron Maiden signature beer," said Hutnik Kraków marketing director Marcin Kądziołka.

Alongside its captain Steve Harris, the Iron Maiden team included his son George Harris and former Scotland international Colin Hendry. Supporting his team on the sidelines was Iron Maiden's songwriter and guitarist Adrian Smith. The game lasted full 90 minutes and ended with a goalless draw.

Jersey for the frontman

After the game, the club's board members gave Steve Harris a match jersey with his name on the back. "What's most interesting is that the it is a jersey for 2023/2024 season," Hutnik chairman Artur Trębacz said. "Steve Harris has therefore become the first owner of our next season match jersey. Thereby, our new matchday jerseys have been presented in the most original of ways," the chairman added.

Iron Maiden performed on Tuesday at Tauron Arena filled to capacity. Due to huge interest from fans, a second concert has been planned to take place on Wednesday evening at the same venue.

The British group's musicians are known for taking part in unusual activities during their tours. Their most famous "antic" in Poland took place in Poznań during the band's 1984 tour. The group gave a spontaneous performance at a wedding in one of Poznań's restaurants. The surprised wedding guests had a chance to listen to renditions of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" and ZZ Top's "Tush".
