“I hope that Jarosław Kaczyński will find the time for me and we will be able to clarify my suspension as member of PiS,” MP Łukasz Rzepecki told journalists gathered in front of the headquarters of the Law and Justice party in Warsaw. Referring to the matter which led to his troubles, he stated that he “would never support cronyism and would never be in favour of MPs being able to hide behind their immunity.”
“I learned from you that I am being suspended in the rights of Law and Justice member, that I am being thrown out,” Łukasz Rzepecki told journalists at a press conference held on Monday on ul. Nowogrodzka in Warsaw, in front of the PiS headquarters.
“It was supposed to be hard work and humility, but this is disrespect”
“I would like to meet chairman Jarosław Kaczyński today and ask him what this is all about,” explained Rzepecki. “Why is the leadership of PiS throwing me out of the caucus? Because I am implementing the Law and Justice program?” he asked. “Ladies and gentlemen, it was supposed to be hard work and humility, but this is disrespect. Most of all, a lack of respect for my voters,” he said.
The suspended PiS MP stressed that no party leader had talked to him about his political situation.
“As I have repeatedly stated, I will work to implement the Law and Justice program, but most of all, the program of those who voted for me. I am not backing off, as this is the most important issue for me,” he stressed. “I will work even harder for the good of this program, for the good of the people in my district, for the good of the country,” he added.
“Kaczyński should also be thrown out”
In response to further questions, Rzepecki said that since he – who was working to implement the PiS program – was being thrown out of the party, then “chairman Jarosław Kaczyński should also be thrown out of the party.”
How did Rzepecki's troubles with Law and Justice begin? Last week, the Regulations, MP Affairs and Immunity Committee voted in favour of a motion tabled by Marcin Kierwiński, a Civic Platform MP. The motion concerned a vote in the Sejm to lift the immunity of PiS MP Dominik Tarczyński to allow criminal charges to be brought against him. Kierwiński brought a private lawsuit against Tarczyński, accusing him of making untrue allegations about his illegal lobbying for Airbus Helicopters.
Rzepecki announced at the time that he would vote for Tarczyński's immunity to be lifted. He stressed that “this was a serious matter” and therefore it should be clarified immediately whether the PO MP lobbied for Airbus.
“I will never support cronyism”
“Did I violate the PiS statute by voting in favour of lifting MP Dominik Tarczyński's immunity?” This was in line with the PiS statute, because a document as important as the constitution clearly refers to the lifting of formal immunity,” Rzepecki explained.
He also stressed that “he would never support cronyism and would never be in favour of MPs being able to hide behind immunity.”
“I do not approve of this,” he stated.
“I hope the chairman will find the time to talk with me”
The PiS parliamentarian, suspended in his rights as a PiS member, announced he wanted to meet with chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, since he “did not know the reasons for this situation and for his suspension.”
“I do hope that chairman Jarosław Kaczyński will find the time to talk with me and that we will be able to discuss this matter in the privacy of his office,” he said.
Rzepecki was not admitted to the office of the Law and Justice chairman. At the party headquarters, he only left a letter addressed to Jarosław Kaczyński, in which he explained “how he had been treated.”
On Friday, the caucus leadership recommended the expulsion of Łukasz Rzepecki from the Law and Justice caucus. Beata Mazurek, the spokeswoman for the party, said that the MP had already taken enough actions indicating that he “sided with the opposition, rather than with the ruling party.”
