Journalists Bertold Kittel, Anna Sobolewska i Piotr Wacowski ("Superwizjer" TVN24, TVN), as well as Grzegorz Głuszak ("Superwizjer" TVN24, TVN) were among the laureates of the Grand Press 2018 award. The 22nd Grand Press final gala was taking place in the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN in Warsaw. The jury has selected the best journalistic works of the year. In this year's edition, 693 works have been submitted. Fifty three of them have reached the final.
Bertold Kiitel has been named the 2018 Journalist of the Year. At the Tuesday’s gala organised by "Press" monthly, the Grand Press awards also went to Andrzej Stankiewicz, Katarzyna Michalak and Grzegorz Głuszak.
The Journalist of the Year award is being granted for professionalism, promoting global work standards in media and observing the ethical principles of the profession. The winner is being chosen in a vote by editor teams from Polish newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations and internet portals. The Journalist of the Year received a nib-shaped statue, as well as 10,000 euros.
The chief editor of "Press" magazine, Andrzej Skworz underscored that it would be hard to find a more experienced investigative journalist in Poland. "He has already received many journalistic awards, both from the time of his work in the press, as well as in television. You have selected him as the winner for his consistency, throughout recent years, in proving that serious investigative journalism in Poland exists, for consistent revealing of things that should have been revealed and for raising, together with his team, a public debate about a problem that has been ignored for years," he said.
When accepting the award, Bertold Kittel said it’s special as it is being granted by the journalist themselves. "You make the decision by yourselves about who to honour with this award. I’m deeply touched by this, especially because investigative journalism is not as spectacular as television," he underscored.
"Many years ago, in the beginnings of this contest, the Journalist of the Year award always went to TV journalists who where actually more of celebrities. As time went by, this has changed and now we have reached a point where investigative journalists are dominating this fine competition, which only proves that thanks our busywork we have managed to appear in the collective consciousness as real journalists," Kittel added.
In this year’s vote the following places were taken by Andrzej Stankiewicz, Grzegorz Głuszak, Konrad Piasecki and Bianka Mikołajewska.
