Former Germany international Lukas Podolski arrived at Katowice airport in a private jet on Wednesday. On Thursday he is to sign a contract with Poland's top-tier football club Górnik Zabrze. "I'm home" - the footballer said.
At the airport Podolski was greeted by former Górnik and Poland's excellent defender Stanisław Oślizło.
"I'm home, everyone knows that. My family comes from here. Now, it's crucial to get to know the coach and the team, and then we'll see. I've returned to a club of my childhood days. I didn't come here for just one day, but for a year or longer" - Podolski said wearing Górnik scarf around his neck.
He stressed that for him there was no better club in Poland.
"There are many young players in Górnik, I will kick their a..ss to make them run and work hard" - he added laughing.
Born in Gliwice, the 36-year-old striker has vowed long time ago he would play for Górnik, a club he has been supporting since childhood.
In the past, Podolski played for FC Koeln, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Galatasaray, Vissel Kobe and Antalyaspor.
He played 130 caps for Germany and scored 49 goals. In 2014 he won the World Cup, and silver at Euro 2008.
Contract signing and official presentation before the fans have been scheduled for Thursday at Zabrze Arena.
