According to TVN’s “Fakty” news service, President Andrzej Duda has extended an invitation to Donald Tusk to join him in the celebration of Poland’s National Independence Day. The President of the European Council has accepted the invitation and will be visiting Warsaw on Saturday.
President of the European Council Donald Tusk will spend a few hours in Poland and will be returning to Brussels later in the day.
The Chancellery of the Polish President invited all former Presidents and Prime Ministers to take part in the celebrations of Poland’s independence.
“Various politicians have confirmed their participation in particular years. It is the first time that Donald Tusk has accepted the invitation, which he received as a former Polish Prime Minister,” said Krzysztof Szczerski, Head of the Polish President’s Cabinet talking to PAP.
He also said that Mr. Tusk had asked to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Celebrations with the President in attendance
Official celebrations will start on 11 November at 9.00 a.m. with a service at the Temple of Divine Providence with the President and the First Lady in attendance.
Mr. Andrzej Duda will also lay wreaths at the tomb of President Ryszard Kaczorowski and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Piłsudskiego Square, where he will also address the assembled public. Later, state decorations will be awarded at the Presidential Palace.
Donald Tusk has also asked to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Chancellery has granted his request.
