The incumbent Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz (36,7 percent) and United Right's candidate Kacper Płażyński (32,3 percent) will face each other in the second round of mayorship race, according to Sunday's exit poll by IPSOS for TVN24.
"I'm very happy, it's a wonderful day in life of a local government member. These were probably the most difficult local elections by far," said Adamowicz.
He expressed his gratitude for a high turnout. "It's our common success that so many of us celebrated democracy. Many months back, I did say that the reinvigoration of Polish democracy will begin in local governments," he stressed.
He reassured that he believes that after November 4 (second round of elections), Gdańsk will become a bastion of democracy and defence of the Constitution.
Adamowicz will face the United Right's candidate Kacper Płażyński in the second round.
"I want to be a mayor of Gdańsk who would speak with everyone, not only with those with whom it is convenient," said Płażyński.
He adressed his words to the candidates who didn't make it to the second round. "Already tomorrow, I will gladly sit down to the table with all of you and talk," he reassured adding that he would like to hold essential talks.
