A man died in a car explosion in the western city of Zielona Góra. "The car was transporting gasoline canisters," said Piotr Kowalski, a spokesman for the city fire department.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday on Partyzantów Street in Zielona Góra. According to witnesses, the explosion occurred when the Volkswagen was going near the Zielona Góra city police station.
The driver of the vehicle died at the scene.
The car immediately went up in flames. Fire trucks, an ambulance, and the police arrived at the scene. The car was completely burned out.
"The car was transporting gasoline canisters," said Piotr Kowalski, a spokesman for the city fire department.
The place has been secured by the police. "Police technicians and a prosecutor are checking the burnt car," said Małgorzata Stanisławska, a police spokesperson in Zielona Góra.
She added that the man who died was 39 years old.
"We are looking for eyewitnesses, especially the two men who were the first to rush to help the man in the burning car," Stanisławska said.
The exact cause of the explosion is being determined. The victim's autopsy is to be conducted on Thursday.
