"The problem is that although the situation is very serious, and so were the discussed issues, our government partners were not completely serious," chairman of Civic Platform Donald Tusk said after the meeting of opposition leaders and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. In his opinion, "it's still more about politics rather than actual work for the homeland's safety".
"The problem is that although the situation is very serious, and so were the discussed issues, our government partners were not completely serious," chairman of the opposition Civic Platfrom party Donald Tusk said after meeting at the PM's office.
He added that the opposition was ready to cooperate. "Any sort of saving is out of the question, we need more of everything. Readiness to joint effort regarding defence is widespread," he assured. He added, however, that he was under the impression that "it's still more about politics rather than actual work for the homeland's safety".
"An obvious proposal to immediately freeze Russian assets in Poland did not meet with positive opinion of the prime minister, I don't understand why. A proposal not to let Orban, and on his behalf the Russians, into our oil industry wasn't accepted and the prime minister rejected it," Tusk said.
Tusk: situation requires utmost seriousness and possibly concrete action
Donald Tusk argued that "Poland today needs a decision and needs it now, and not such political testing, political checking how to put the opposition in a difficult situation again". "Because it seems that's all this meeting was about when it comes to Mr Morawiecki and Mr Kaczyński's intentions," he added.
Civic Platform leader stressed that "we are available in relation to any issue where there's a decision, where there's action".
Tusk said that many of his proposals had not received positive feedback from the government side. "I didn't receive any answer to my question regarding decisions that would unblock European funds. Despite my clear request to get a list of companies buying coal from Russia, the prime minister completely ignored my call. As to my proposal to launch action which would block the possibility to buy Russian coal without waiting for tariffs increase, I received no answer," Tusk said.
He stressed that "the situation requires utmost seriousness and possible concrete action by the West". "Nevertheless, and regardless from my opinion on how PM Morawiecki and deputy PM Kaczyński were prepared for this meeting and on the (proposed) changes in the constitution, despite my opinion on what I took part in today, we intend to everything we can to help anyway, and certainly not to make things worse," he assured.
"With regards to changes in the constitution, I hope we will receive a copy in writing," he added.
