Donald Tusk criticised Polish government on Wednesday for inaction in the face of the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic. "Today is the last chance for PM Morawiecki to say what he's going to do stop the tragic statistics appearing every day," said the leader of Civic Platform. In his view, "lives of dozens of people each day depend on prime minister's decision". Poland reported 28,380 daily COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the health ministry said, a record for the fourth wave of the pandemic. The ministry also reported 460 deaths.
The fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is sweeping through Poland. The Health Ministry informed on Wednesday about 28,380 newly confirmed infection cases, which is the highest number since April.
A daily average of more than 21,000 people contract SARS-CoV-2, while hospitals report an average increase in new COVID patients at nearly 19,000.
Despite the significant increase in infections, the government has not yet decided to introduce any new restrictions.
Tusk: human lives depend on Morawiecki's decision
The leader of the opposition Civic Platform party Donald Tusk commented on the issue at a press conference on Wednesday.
"I would like to see PM Mrawiecki in Warsaw today and hear him say that he has finally decided to make any decisions regarding the pandemic," he said.
In his opinion, "today is the last chance for PM Morawiecki to say what he's going to do stop the tragic statistics appearing every day".
"The power is in their hands, and Civic Platform's offer of support is on the table. Lives of dozens of people each day directly depend on prime minister's decision. Government inaction results in hundreds of unnecessary deaths monthly," Tusk stressed.
Poland's former prime minister reiterated declarations expressed by his party already a number of times, namely that they are ready to support any government action aimed at tackling the pandemic, but which are in line with recommendations of the Medical Council.
