U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to Poland has been postponed, not cancelled, and will take place still this year - the chief of Polish President's Chancellery, Krzysztof Szczerski, informed after the meeting with John Bolton on Friday.
"It is President Trump's and clear-cut will to visit Warsaw this year, in the coming months, to complete the full plan of this visit, initially planned for September 2, including signing the documents that have been agreed upon and are ready to sign by both presidents," Szczerski said after the meeting with U.S. Secretary of Defense John Bolton on Friday in Warsaw.
Szczerski said Poland had proposed the USA a number of possible dates for Trump's visit and "all are within the next three months". "We would like to announce the new date of U.S. President's visit to Warsaw in the near future," he added.
Asked about the exact proposed dates, Szczerski replied: "A few dates within the next three months, from today until mid-November".
Pence instead of Trump
The presidential aide also informed that the U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and his wife would arrive in Warsaw on Sunday, September 1 and leave Poland the following day.
"On September 2, we aim to carry out basically very similar sequence of events that were initially planned for the two presidents. The President (Duda) will talk to Vice President Pence, than plenary talks of both delegations and joint press conference would follow. All these elements stand and it will be a two-day visit," said Szczerski, adding that it would be classified as working visit.
Duda and Pence, said Szczerski, will discuss, among other things, economy and energy cooperation. "We would like the dynamics of Polish economy to be reflected in the American investment offer for Poland. A lot of effort has been put into this issue and I hope that soon we'll be able to announce another important, economy and production investments in Poland," said the head of president's office.
Furthermore, military cooperation and common investment in military security of the region and the NATO will be among the topics of Monday's talks. "There are also issues regarding social relations. We hope that soon we will have an important announcement regarding the Visa Waiver Program," he added.
Szczerski also said that the document regarding extension of military cooperation, that was suposed to be signed by Polish and U.S. presidents, would not be signed by Duda and Pence. "The document shall wait to be signed by the presidents, it's not losing its value, its provisions are binding. That was also agreed between Mr Ambassador Bolton and minister (of defense) Błaszczak, that we shall carry on treating this document as binding, and waiting for it to be signed by the presidents," he explained.
