Dominik Tarczyński from Law and Justice is the one who has won the 52nd ticket in the European election in Poland. The holder of the so-called "frozen" ticket will have to wait before going to Brussels until the British MEPs have left the Europarliament after Brexit.
In early April, President Andrzej Duda signed a law on the rules governing the order of distribution of seats for Polish MEPs for the 2019-2024 tenure.
In line with its provisions, Poles have chosen 52 MEPs, however only 51 will assume office from the start of the tenure. The last Polish seat has been "frozen" until the United Kingdom have left the European Union, freeing the seats after British MEPs.
PKW: Tarczyński to join after Brexit
The National Electoral Commission (PKW) informed on Monday afternoon that the 52nd ticket has been assigned to the Law and Justice electoral committee.
Dominik Tarczyński received the lowest number of votes from among candidates chosen from this committee and therefore he will be the one to join the European Parliament after Brexit.
The United Kingdom will free 73 seats in Brussels after Brexit, of whcih 46 will remain "frozen" for the future expansion of the bloc. As a result, the overall number of seats in the European Parliament will be reduced from 751 to 705. The remaining 27 tickets freed by the UK will be distributed between 14 underrepresented EU member-states. Poland is one of those states.
