Firing practice with the use of the multiple integrated laser engagement system (MILES) and combat vehicle attack scenarios were on the list of Tuesday tasks of the Defender Europe 2022 NATO drills held in Drawsko Pomorskie. The practice is scheduled to be held until May 27.
Tuesday was yet another day of the Defender Europe 2022 military drills in Drawsko Pomorskie. "This time it will not be a regular firing practice with live ammunition, but with the multiple integrated laser engagement system MILES, which uses lasers and blank cartridges to simulate losses suffered in combat," 12th Mechanised Division press officer Major Błażej Łukaszewski announced on Monday.
He added that Abrams and Leopard tanks, assisted by Bradley and BMP-1 combat vehicles, would carry out a joint simulated attack operation. "They will be supported by ZSU-23-4 Shilka anti-aircraft systems and Mi-24 attack helicopters," Łukaszewski added.
The drills at Drawsko Pomorskie training ground began on May 1 and will be held until May 27.
"DEFENDER-Europe 22 is a multinational, regular joint and combined exercise organized by the United States Armed Forces to build preparedness and interoperability between Allies and partners of the USA and NATO," Poland's Defence Ministry said at its website.
The Polish locations of the manoeuvres include training areas in Drawsko Pomorskie, Bemowo Piskie and Żagań.
"Apart from Polish troops, forces from the USA, France, Sweden, Germany, Denmark and Great Britain will also participate with the 5th Corps of the US Armed Forces responsible for command and control," Poland's MOD said.
