A regional court in Warsaw has acquitted Władysław Frasyniuk on Thursday. An opposition activist from the Communist era was accused of misinforming a police officer "about his own identity", in June 2017.
As judge Łukasz Biliński from Warszawa-Śródmieście Regional Court emphasised, according to the collected evidence, including testimonies of police officers and the accused himself, it cannot be determined whether or nor Mr Frasyniuk had the intention to misinform the policeman.
It was yet another case pending in the Warszawa-Śródmieście Regional Court regarding incidents that took place during Smoleńsk catastrophe commemorations on 10 June, 2017.
According to the police, several dozen people interrupted the ceremony at Krakowskie Przedmieście Boulevard, by sitting on a road with intention of blocking the procession headed towards the Presidential Palace.
Among the sitting protesters, who were all removed by the police, was an opposition activist from the Communist era, Władysław Frasyniuk.
According to media reactions, when asked by a policeman to provide his identity, Mr Frasyniuk said: Jan Józef Grzyb, which translates directly as John Joseph Mushroom.
For that, Frasyniuk was accused of a misdemeanour of deliberate misinforming a police officer regarding true identity details.
