A tragic accident took place at a construction site in Szklarska Poręba (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). A 30-meter-tall crane collapsed with operator inside the cabin. The 51-year-old man died in a hospital shortly after.
Shortly before noon, emergency centre received a call regarding a collapsed crane at a construction site at Górna Street in Szklarska Poręba.
"The accident happened during construction work. Fire service was the first to arrive at the scene. The firefighters took the crane operator out of the cabin, so that the ambulance crew could take him to a hospital," said Krzysztof Zakrzewski of Jelenia Góra Fire Service.
Crane operator dies in hospital
According to the police, the crane was 35 meters tall. It collapsed when the operator was working 9 meters above the ground. Spokesperson for Jelenia Góra police, Edyta Bagrowska, said around 1 p.m. that the 51-year-old was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Two hours later, she informed that the operator died.
The prosecutor and the Chief Labour Inspectorate were working on the scene, in order to determine what caused the accident.
