Residents in the Polish city of Łódź are being offered a new way to pay for parking: with their conscience.
The church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is offering drivers the chance to pay for a parking space in return for prayers, dedicated to their parents.
A sign in the church's car park 'charges' drivers according to the amount of time they park: the longer they park, the more prayers they have to say.
The driver has to say an extra ten 'Hail Mary' prayers, for every 15 minutes they park. The 'tariff' is modelled on the rosary, the set of prayer beads used by Catholics.
Those who park at the church for mass are exempt from saying extra prayers.
Parish priest, Ryszard Szmist, who is behind the campaign said it is about providing spiritual support to relatives.
He also added that it teaches spirituality, as drivers are encouraged to say a prayer behind the wheel to prevent road rage.
