Ten families struggling with financial hardship from the town of Drawsko Pomorskie will receive Christmas packages filled with basic need products from the U.S. troops stationed at the local military base. The American soldiers came up with the idea, while the employees of the local social security center helped them to follow through.

The Christmas charity action has been organized on the initiative of the U.S. troops stationed at the military base in Drawsko Pomorskie for more than a year now.

"We’re lucky to be here, to work with everyone and to give back a little bit with the U.S. Army. We’re happy to work with the citizens of Drawsko Pomorskie," said Steven Thomson, a U.S. soldier.

"It’s nice to be here this time of year. Christmas is such a giving time of the year and we’re happy to give to those citizens of Drawsko Pomorskie that need it the most," he added.

"We’ve been here for about a little more than a year now and we’re all anxious to get together and try to help out some people who may need it a little bit more than we do."

The whole plan has been carried out in cooperation with the local authorities.

"I think this kind of initiative will help to extend the cooperation between the soldiers and the the residents of our region even more," said Drawsko Pomorskie Mayor Krzysztof Czerwiński.

The local social security center has listed 10 local families who, in their opinion, have found themselves in the most difficult circumstances.

"We've sent the list of needs of those families to the U.S. soldiers. It includes food and children's clothes, among other things," said Agnieszka Redmann, director of the social security center in Drawsko Pomorskie.

The first boxes have already been delivered to the first two families. One of them consists of a single mother, named Ewelina, and her three children, who mainly needed clothes.

"It's very nice of them that they wanted to help. The kids will definitely be happy with new clothes and toys," Ewelina said.
