A dark-grey cat found home in the famous Dragon's Lair underneath the Wawel Royal Castle in Kraków. Just like the original mythical dweller, the feline was lured out with a tasty-looking meal. Not only did castle security guards name the cat Wawel, but they also gave him a nickname: Smoczek, which means "little dragon" in Polish.
Kraków Animal Welfare Society (KTOZ) informed about the intervention at the Dragon's Lair. The cat had been spotted there on Friday (Feb. 24), but no one was able to approach the animal.
Animal welfare inspectors made several attempts to catch the cat, but it was too scared to let itself get cornered. In the meantime, castle security guards made sure the entrance to the lair was opened in case of the feline tried to walk out voluntarily. Unfortunately the plan did not work.
Cat trap
Finally, on Monday the animal welfare team decided to lure the cat by setting up a trap cage with food inside. "The frightened animal got tempted by the food left there, just like the Wawel Dragon by the lamb," the inspectors said.
Within two hours the cat was captured and taken to a shelter. A security guard was granted the right to give the cat a name. "The was named Wawel - nickname Smoczek," KTOZ said on social media.
