A company of British Challenger tanks will arrive in Poland this week, Poland's Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said on Twitter on Wednesday. He added that the company will reinforce British forces already stationed in Poland.
"A company of British Challenger tanks is coming to Poland this week as part of allied reinforcement forces, supporting British forces already stationed on the territory of our country. This is another strong proof of eastern flank reinforcement by the British," Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak said on Twitter.
British forces in Poland
British forces are stationed in Poland as part of allied forces on NATO eastern flank. One of the four NATO multinational battalion battle groups (known as Battle Group Poland) has been stationed in Orzysz since March, 2017, as part of the enhanced Forward Presence initiative (eFP). The battle group is led by the United States and includes troops from the United Kingdom, Romania and Croatia - over 1,000 soldiers in total.
The group stationed in Orzysz cooperates on an everyday basis with the 15th Giżycko Mechanised Brigade. Just like all the other eFP battalion groups stationed in Europe, it is coordinated by the Multinational Division North East HQ in Elbląg.
